Kickin It Up performing arts camp

Senior Division (7th - 12th Grades) Skill Classes


Check in time and locations: 7:45 a.m.

7th-8th Grades - Junior High Room

Available Skill Classes

 
Acting - Just the F'ACTS (Fundamentals of Acting)

• A look at the basics of acting through the staging of tableaus and sketches. Topics covered include stage dynamics, presence and delivery, blocking, motivations, and stage business.

Art of Cake Decorating

• Get creative with icing! In this class we will be learning the basics of cake decorating. We will learn how to make borders, flowers, leaves and figure piping. All of this along with your imagination will help you create your very own edible art.

Choreography

• Participants will learn dance moves while creating a short routine.
• Routines learned will be to songs and themes similar to other camp groups.

Movement for Non-movers (God Rods)

• Use of "God Rods" (dowel rod sticks) to interpret lyrics to contemporary Christian music or Scripture text. This class will be a broad overview of concepts, choreography and precepts for team building.

Gymnastics

• Participants will learn basic gymnastic and tumbling skills.
• Routines learned will be to songs and themes similar to other camp groups.

Photography

• Participants will learn composition and lighting and what makes a good picture.
• Pictures taken during the week will be displayed at the Thursday night Celebration.
• Participants must provide their own digital camera and blank memory card.
- All cameras must be dropped off on Sunday, July 5 in the Education Building Room 20  at 3 p.m. with the student's name clearly marked.

Signing to Music

• Participants will learn basic etiquette and techniques of signing to music.

Set Design

• Participants will learn basic set design skills and create the environment and stage settings for the Thursday night Celebration.

Stage Make-up

• An interactive look at the amazing art of stage makeup. Everything from learning the tools of the craft to classical stage makeup all the way to stage wounds, shading, expressions & aging. Do you love to play with color or learn how to transform characters, then this class is for you?

Live Sound 101 (How to Mic a Band)

• Participants will learn basic steps to running sound and how to mic a band.

Glee Vocals

• Love to sing? Learn vocal parts from songs of current shows. Be challenged as you learn to perform with excellence. (In the Performance segment -- High School students only -- you will learn vocal parts and choreography from songs of current shows. This performance team will teach and challenge you to perform with excellence.)

Musical Instrument Instruction Classes

 
Beginning Acoustic & Electric Guitar

(Exception: 3rd Grade and up)
• Participants need to bring their own guitar and (if needed) amp.
• Beginning skills will be taught.
• All instruments must be dropped off on Sunday, July 5, in the Youth Center Classroom 101 at 3 p.m. with the student's name clearly marked on the case.

Beginning Bass Guitar

• Participants need to bring their own guitar and (if needed) amp.
• Beginning skills will be taught.
• All instruments must be dropped off on Sunday, July 5, in the Youth Center Classroom 106 at 3 p.m. with the student's name clearly marked on the case.

Intermediate/Advanced Bass Guitar

• Participants need to bring their own guitar and amp.
• Participants must have previous lessons or ability.
• All instruments must be dropped off on Sunday, July 5, in the Youth Center Classroom 101 at 3 p.m. with the student's name clearly marked on the case.

Intermediate/Advanced Acoustic Guitar

• Participants need to bring their own guitar and amp.
• Participants must have previous lessons or ability.
• All instruments must be dropped off on Sunday, July 5, in the Youth Center Classroom 101 at 3 p.m. with the student's name clearly marked on the case.

Intermediate/Advanced Electric Guitar

• Participants need to bring their own guitar and amp.
• Participants must have previous lessons or ability.
• All instruments must be dropped off on Sunday, July 5, in the Youth Center Classroom 108 at 3 p.m. with the student's name clearly marked on the case.

Beginning Drums

•If you're just beginning to drum and need some practical skills to help you as you get started, then this class is for you (will give you a solid foundation to grow on).
• Requires a set of drum sticks and a practice pad. At the end of the week, you will have a chance to play a drum set. All practice pads and drum sticks must be dropped off on Sunday, July 5 in Downstairs Chapel Room 3.

Hand Chimes

• This class will introduce the concepts of note reading, melody, chord, and team work.

Afternoon Performance Classes

Each of the individual Performance classes will have the same message. The Performance classes will be designed for the Celebration on Thursday night. All classes will be intertwined allowing for continuity and a consistent and focused message.
 
Includes the following Teams: Choreography, Glee/Vocals*, God Rods, Gymnastics, and Stomp*.

When registering, you will choose four skill classes (or substitute a musical instrument instruction class of your choice for one of the four skill classes) for the morning sessions.

Please note that registration for Kickin' It Up has ended.

Our younger students will be placed according to grade level and will have three classes in Gymnastics, Choreography, and Rhythm on a rotating schedule in the morning.

Afternoon classes will include Crafts, Games and a Bible lesson.

Beginning Guitar Option

Those in 3rd grade can choose to take a beginning guitar class in place of their craft class. All instruments must be dropped off on Sunday, July 5, in the Children's Building 10 at 3 p.m. with the student's name clearly marked on the case.

Please note:
July 9 start time for this age group is 3 p.m. and will go through the Celebration time (dinner will be provided).


Dismissal: 4 p.m.
