“Do we have any jelly?”
“It’s in the fridge!”
“I’m looking in the fridge. I don’t see it.”
“2nd shelf.”
“I’m looking at the 2nd shelf.”
“On the right.”
“I don’t see it.”
After getting up from her chair, walking over to the kitchen, and showing me where the jelly was, right there on the 2nd shelf, my mom would say; “If it was a snake it would have bit you.”
The jelly was right there the whole time, and I legitimately searched for it. I wanted to find it, but I needed help to see it.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” – 1 John 3:1.
The Apostle John begins chapter 3 of his first letter to the saints by encouraging believers to notice God’s great love. See the great love there! King James’ translation reads, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us.” Behold it! See it there! Notice. Don’t miss it.
Sometimes a good thing is right there but we don’t see it. Don’t let that be the case for God’s great love. Behold it, see it, notice that it is a foundational part of our lives and beings. And the thing John points to, as the example of God’s great love, is the truth that believers are children of God.
Take a moment or two to think about what being a child of God means. Consider why being in God’s family is such a blessing. Behold yourself being a beloved son or daughter of your heavenly Father. The truth is right there, don’t overlook it.
