Education
Escondido’s kids are full of potential. Can you help make a difference?
Education
Reading Mentors meet one child from Rose Elementary once a week for just 30 minutes — sharing stories, practicing words, and simply being present. For kids whose education has been disrupted by poverty or unstable housing, that kind of reliable relationship changes everything. Mentors are trained through San Diego Oasis and must be 50+. The next training is at the end of the summer.
Monday Night Homework Club is a weekly gathering where students get homework help, a hot meal, and something even harder to find — a place they truly belong. Caring volunteers show up each week to sit alongside kids, build real relationships, and help families stay on track. You don’t have to be an expert. You just have to show up.
Teacher Support: with 52 schools within Escondido city limits alone, there are many teachers who could use encouragement, community, and practical support. Whether you’re a new educator looking for a mentor or a veteran teacher wanting to connect with others who get it, we’re exploring what this could look like.

Families
Foster care and crisis don’t just affect children — they shake entire families. Our Family Strong ministry exists to make sure no one walks through that alone.
Families
Foster care and crisis don’t just affect children — they shake entire families. Our Family Strong ministry exists to make sure no one walks through that alone.
Care Communities are teams of volunteers who rally around a foster family for about six months – bringing meals, babysitting, helping with homework, and praying consistently. See more about Care Communities below.
Host Families open their homes when parents hit a crisis point and have nowhere to turn. For one night or up to 90 days, children of all ages have a safe, loving place to land while their families stabilize. Hosts demonstrate extravagant generosity to children in need. Learn more about Host Families in the next section below.
Respite Nights give foster and adoptive families something they rarely get: a break. Quarterly respite nights let parents breathe while kids enjoy games and pizza. See below to learn more about our Respite Nights.

We have three strategies for building Strong Families.
We believe in prevention.
We believe in restoration.
And we believe in expanding our view of Family.
CARE COMMUNITIES
Foster families in our community need support. Care Communities are groups of volunteers that commit to supporting one family for a set period of time. They bring meals, babysit, encourage, and pray for the family. We have seen lives changed as a result of this ministry and you can be a part of helping vulnerable children and families in our community.

HOST FAMILIES
What?
Support families in need by opening your home temporarily to children. A hosting can last as little as one day to several weeks. You will have the freedom to accept or reject any hosting — it’s based on your availability and ability.
When?
As needed
Training?
Host families receive training and background checks in order to host children in their homes.
I can’t host, can I still help?
Yes! There is also a need for support roles — volunteers who will assist with dinners, clothing, running errands, etc.
RESPITE NIGHTS
What?
Join the team that runs our Respite Nights! We provide a night of fun for foster and adopted children and their siblings and give their caregivers a night off. Volunteers play games and supervise the children. We provide dinner, activities, and a movie.
When?
Quarterly
Do I need training?
We provide a short training session. We will also request that you complete a background check in order to work with children at EFCC.
How long do we watch the kids?
3-4 hours, usually on a Friday or Saturday
How old do I need to be to serve?
Students 15 and up are welcome to serve. If you’re under 15, please bring an adult
Can I get community service hours for helping?
Yes!
Homeless
Help our homeless neighbors in our community.
Homeless
Over 300 people in Escondido have no place to call home. They’re our neighbors — and we don’t want to walk past them. Jesus modeled a different way of seeing people, and that’s what we’re trying to do. To get involved, contact us via email at the link below.
